“The Wheels on The Bus Go Round and Round”

This past week I went on a school field trip with my daughter’s preschool.  It was her first time on a school bus, in fact it was also her first school field trip (we went to a park and had a picnic)!  She was very excited.  I on the other hand was a little nervous about my kiddo following the rules so I decided it was a great opportunity to create a School Bus Craft and talk about bus rules with her.

Here are the rules we talked about together.

1. When entering the bus, wait in a line and enter one at a time.

2. Stay seated when your on the bus.

3. Face forward when sitting in your seat.

4. No kicking the seat in front of you.

5. No yelling.  Talk quietly to the person sitting next to you.

6. Listen and respect the bus driver.

7.  If there is a seatbelt, where it!

8. Do not throw anything in or out of the bus.

9. Stop talking at railroad tracks, so the bus driver can listen for trains.

10. Do not get out of your seat until the bus stops moving.

After we talked about the rules, my daughter worked on her cutting and gluing skills by making her own bus (we did the version on the left–it’s easier!).  When we finished it, we hung it on the fridge (if you knew Laina you’d know this is a must!) and then during the week I’d reinforce the rules by pointing to her bus and asking her to tell me a rule she knows about bus safety.  We always read a book before bed time, so I also read her the book, “The Wheels on The Bus,” to go with our bus theme. You can always add extras to crafts to make them stand out!  Here I added some wiggly eyes and some buttons.

Here is a Wheels on the Bus Class Book Freebie! Have students fill in the blanks and get a few laughs with their unique responses.  Be sure to brainstorm with them ahead of time the different sounds that come from the bus!  Then have them draw a picture to coordinate with their responses.  Once everyone has completed the page, make a class book and send it home with a student every week!
