The Crayon Box That Talked Pattern Freebie

It there’s one thing I love to see in an early elementary classroom, it’s artwork made by students!  This is the time when students are working on their fine motor skills and learning how to cut with scissors and glue things together.  Books are being read daily and new themes are being introduced throughout the year.

Crafts are great to tie into the daily curriculum, but let’s be honest they are not always feasible when you have to create it from scratch and then prep it for an entire classroom.  That is where I come in!  I create craft patterns for teachers in the classroom, homeschool, and daycare setting that are easy prep for teachers.

The best part about my resources is that the design element is taken off your plate, the craft patterns are ready to print, and the patterns are kid-friendly and easy to cut.  Of course I have plenty of parents and kids working on these at home too just as a fun activity or to reinforce cutting skills children are learning in school.

read The crayon box that talked

Today I am sharing My Crayon Craft Freebie with you.  It is the perfect activity to pair with the book, The Crayon Box That Talked, by Shane De Rolf or any crayon/color related book.  I love this craft because you can work on color recognition with your students while making a vibrant bulletin board at the same time.

3 types of craft patterns for the crayon

This resources includes 3 different pattern types so you can use the craft in a variety of ways and for many different ages.  It includes:

  • Templates that can be copied directly onto colored cardstock or construction paper and then cut out by students.
  • Labeled templates that can be xeroxed onto cardstock, cut by the teacher, and then traced onto colored paper and cut by students. Labels will include the name of the pattern, the color to use, and how many of each pattern to cut (Ex: Body Cut 1 Red).
  • Coloring templates (a separate pdf to send to your students for distance learning)

Add personality to your crayon craft

To give the crayons some personality I like to have students place their arms and legs in positions they like and then have them add the facial features to make them unique.  Letting students give their crayon a personality will also make it more recognizable when they see their craft hung around the classroom or on a hallway bulletin board.
