Colorful, Festive & Fun Turkey Craft for November

This Thanksgiving, what are you thankful for? I hope you can think of at least one thing that brings you joy this holiday season. When it comes to November and all things Thanksgiving, our family likes to share what we are thankful for whether it’s something big or small. Sometimes we just talk about it and other times we use this fun Turkey Craft to write down our thoughts. The craft makes fun and festive decorations around the house and classroom!

How To Use the Turkey Craft

This colorful turkey craft is the perfect holiday activity for kids this November. The pieces are easy to assemble and better yet, the template is simple to prep. Just print the body and feathers onto colored cardstock following the simple instructions and you’re ready to go.

You can print each piece onto a different color or you can print the labeled templates to trace onto cardstock. I choose the variation based on the tracing and cutting abilities of my little ones at the time.

The turkey crafts are great for making a fall or Thanksgiving themed bulletin board in your classroom or home. You can use one of the following phrases as a header for your bulletin board filled with turkeys.

  • There’s Always Something to be Thankful For!
  • We Have An Attitude of Gratitude
  • We Are Thankful
  • Gobble Up A Good Book
  • We Are Thankful For….

You can also have students write what they are thankful for on each feather of their turkey. There are 7 feathers so they can think of 7 different things they are thankful for in their lives. You can prompt them with a few ideas. Remind them they can be thankful for certain members of their family, good health, a roof over their head, food to eat, clothes to wear and people who love them. Also remind them it’s ok to be thankful for the little things like a specific toy or food they like. Let them get creative.

Using the Turkey As a Coloring Page

If you want your students to take their time on their turkeys, you can have them cut and color each of the pieces separately. This is a great way to have them practice their fine motor skills and their handwriting skills.

It’s a wonderful activity to have out as they enter the classroom in the morning. Have them cut the pieces out as morning work and tuck them into a baggie or paperclip them together. Then, when writing time rolls around, have them write what they are thankful for on each of the feathers. They can write single words or full sentences based on their skill level.
