Easy Snowman Craft Companion for Winter Read Alouds

I don’t know about where you live, but it’s pretty cold here! You step outside and the cold is biting your nose. That means, it’s the perfect time to read about snowmen and create some fun snowman crafts! These sweet Snowman Buddies pair perfectly with a winter read-aloud with your little ones. They’re simple to prep, easy to put together and make a show-stopping bulletin board display!

Snowman Read Alouds

If you aren’t sure which snowman stories to read to your students, I have a few favorites I can share. These stories are all perfect to enjoy by the fire, with a cup of cocoa, or in the classroom when it’s too cold for recess. Just click the links to be taken to a YouTube read-aloud you can joy any day in winter.

Snowmen at Night and How to Catch a Snowman are the perfect books to read if you want kids to do some writing after the easy snowman craft! Just use lined or blank paper. They can record their own way to catch a snowman or what they think snowmen do at night!

How to Use The Snowman Craft

This Easy Snowman Craft comes with templates that make prep simple! Just download the file and print either the coloring page template or the construction paper template. I like to print the templates onto colored cardstock so I don’t have to trace anything, but you can print them onto plain paper to trace. You or your kiddos can cut out the shapes. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions provided to put the snowman together. See, simple!

To add some variety, you can print the hats, berries and scarves on different colored paper. Let the kids choose their own pieces and see what their finished crafts look like!

The coloring page option is a fantastic activity to have on hand for rainy day recess or super cold days. You can have the students complete the coloring as morning work and then assemble their crafts later in the day to break things up. The coloring option gives them the opportunity to personalize their snowman or snowwoman any way they want! I always love to see the variety of colors and patterns students choose.

The completed snow people make a colorful and cheerful winter bulletin board display. They can stay up the entire winter or just for a few weeks! If you choose to have kids do a writing piece about snowmen, they can hang beside or under the cute snow people. The kids will love looking at their creations and reading their writing to friends and family.

You can watch what it takes to prep and complete this craft below! I’m a very visual person, so I know this might be helpful to some of you!

After completing this easy snowman craft, I would love to hear which read alouds or activities you paired with it!
