A Cute Shark Craft in Time for Shark Week

Whether it’s close to shark week or not, this shark craft is an extremely fun activity to do with your little ones. Most kids love learning about these amazing creatures. Show them some fun facts about sharks and then let them put their own shark craft together to hang up in the house or the classroom. It’s super easy to prep and complete. Take a look!

What’s Included With The Shark Craft?

This shark craft download, like all of my crafts comes with step by step instructions so you know exactly what to do while piecing this shark together. Here’s what else you will get:

  • A photograph of the craft activity
  • Step-by-step directions
  • Templates that can be copied directly onto colored cardstock or construction paper and then cut out by students.
  • Labeled templates that can be xeroxed onto cardstock, cut by the teacher, and then traced onto colored paper and cut by students. Labels will include the name of the pattern, the color to use, and how many of each pattern to cut (Ex: Body Cut 1 Red).
  • Coloring templates (a separate 3-page pdf to send to your students for distance learning)

Use these materials any way you would like! The templates are easy to follow and the craft doesn’t take long to make.

How to Assemble My Shark Craft

You will begin by laying down the two larger pieces of the shark’s body. Glue them together in the centers. Then, attach the white underbelly using more glue.

Add the top fin and the bottom fin so your shark can swim!

Finally, attach the black mouth and its eye. Don’t forget to fill in its mouth with sharp white teeth!

The most difficult part of this craft will be cutting out the small white teeth. I recommend having an adult do this unless you know your kids can handle the sharp corners and small pieces.

Watch this video to see how I prep the craft and put it all together.

How to Use a Shark Craft

A shark craft is perfect for shark week, a study on the letter S, an ocean-themed classroom, or a fun bulletin board. The shark is also fun to create just for fun. I know plenty of little boys and girls that love sharks and would like to have their own hanging on the fridge.

Want some fun incentive for good classroom behavior? Tell students they can create this fun craft after a full week of amazing behavior and positive attitudes! It’s a great classroom reward.

Fun Facts about Sharks

If you want to share some fun facts about these amazing creatures with your kids, use these!

  • The most common type of shark is the Great White Shark.
  • The most unusual-looking shark is the Hammerhead Shark.
  • The largest shark in the ocean is the Whale Shark (they are also the biggest fish).
  • Sharks have no real bones in their body. Their bodies are made of cartilage, just like your ears and nose!
  • There are over 450 species of sharks living in the ocean.
  • Sharks have been around for 420 million years.
  • A shark has an amazing sense of smell and can smell prey for miles.
  • They can also detect sounds that are about 700 feet away.
  • If a shark’s tooth falls out, they don’t worry. New rows of teeth are always coming in. They might go through 20,000 teeth throughout their lives.
  • Baby sharks are called pups.
  • Sharks will live for up to 30 years in the ocean.
  • The Great White Shark is the only shark species that will put its head above water.
