Simple & Refreshing Lemonade Craft for Kids

If you are looking for a fun craft to do this summer with your kids, try this Lemonade Craft. This summer activity pairs perfectly with a How-to writing piece, National Lemonade Day, or to work on fine motor skills. It’s easy to complete and looks great hanging up on a bulletin board! Make your summer bulletin board display pop with this fun craft.

What is National Lemonade Day?

National Lemonade Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in May each year. While this day is the perfect time to enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade, the meaning of this tradition goes much deeper. Lemonade Day was founded in 2007 by Michael Holthouse from Texas. His idea was to create this tradition to help motivate the world’s youth to run small businesses like a lemonade stand.

The day isn’t solely about selling lemonade! Those who celebrate discuss the steps it takes to prepare the drink, take stock of their resources, attend workshops on how to sell, and find the best locations to sell. The day is about teaching younger kids to be creative and to wake up their inner entrepreneurs while enjoying delicious glasses of lemonade.

How to Assemble the Lemonade Craft Activity

Here’s how I print the pieces of the craft, but you can of course do it however you would like.

  • Blue cardstock for the glass
  • Yellow cardstock for the lemonade
  • White cardstock for the straw, eyes, and ice cubes
  • Red cardstock for the stripes on the straw
  • Orange cardstock for lemon slice

Then, I piece it all together after cutting it out!

  1. First, glue the yellow lemonade piece on top of the blue glass.
  2. Glue the straw down between the previous layers, so it’s hidden.
  3. Next, glue the orange slice, the ice cubes, and the eyes down on top of the yellow lemonade.
  4. Add the red stripes to the straw.
  5. Last, add a cute smile to your face!

It’s so easy to prep and complete; just watch the quick video below! I show you the colors to use, where to place things, and how it looks at the end. Feel free to show this to your kiddos and let them get creative when they start crafting.

Use the Craft for How To Writing

This is an amazing craft to use if you teach kindergarten, first or second grade. Students around that age do lots of How to writing pieces, and teaching someone how to make lemonade is so much fun. Let kids brainstorm the steps for making lemonade, and then let them get to writing.

Hang the crafts up for everyone to see once they are complete. It will be so fun to look at the different lemonade crafts and read the variations of steps to make lemonade. I love how students’ personalities come out in their crafting and writing.
