National Sunflower Day

National Sunflower Day usually occurs sometime in August or September, depending on where you live. Some countries celebrate at different times because of blooming seasons, but it is most commonly held in mid-September in the United States.

This day is a fun time to enjoy the beautiful flowers in your area, plant some sunflower seeds, enjoy eating sunflower seeds, or learn about sunflowers and flowers in general. People celebrate in various ways, so celebrate your day by creating this fun sunflower craft.

What’s Included in the Sunflower Craft Activity?

Each sunflower craft has a stem, 2 leaves, 7 petals, and a cute face. Let your kids assemble their craft any way they would like or follow your directions.

Also included in this download is a coloring page version of the craft. Kids can color their craft, cut it out, and put it together. It’s a great way to practice fine motor skills in the classroom or at home.

Students can add a smiley face to their sunflower craft or leave it blank with no face at all!

How to Put the Sunflower Craft Together

Putting this craft together is super simple! Just follow the step-by-step instructions to see how it is done. I like to create my own craft before the kids do it and let them use my completed piece as a model. You can just as easily walk the kids through the craft step by step.

When to Use the Sunflower Craft

Create this fun sunflower craft any time of year or choose to do it close to the sunflower blooming season. Use it to celebrate National Sunflower Day or to reward your class with a fun craft. Kids love crafting, so it’s the perfect reward! The craft is also perfect for learning about the letter S, practicing fine motor skills, learning to follow directions, decorating a doorway or hallway, working in small groups, and pairing it with a read-aloud story. The options are endless!

Kids will love coloring their own sunflowers using their imagination. They don’t have to be yellow. Sunflowers also come in pretty oranges and reds. Let your kids research some sunflowers, and then choose their own coloring!
