Adorably Easy Cupid Name Heart Craft to Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Kids

I never decorate much for Valentine’s Day, but I go all out when it comes to crafts and homemade Valentines. If you’re like me and you love making crafts with your kids, this Cupid Name Heart Craft is a must. Simple crafts around the holidays are a great way to foster community, bring a little joy, and decorate the room in a fun way.

Why are Crafts Beneficial to Kids?

For starters, crafts are fun, and most kids enjoy putting them together. The best crafts require minimal supplies and direction. All the kids need is a model of the completed project and their materials.

Crafts are perfect for working on fine motor skills. Using scissors and a pincer grasp to pick up their materials works on those tiny muscles. These muscles will later be used for writing and dexterity. It may not seem important at such a young age, but it’s honestly the best time to work on small muscle movements.

Name crafts are great for spelling and letter recognition. I like to lay out a variety of letters and allow the kids to grab the ones they need to make their names. For this craft, print the letters on pink, red, white, or purple.

Crafts also foster classroom community. If you teach in a classroom, you’ll know that kids LOVE seeing their artwork up on the wall. They feel like they are part of something larger. Some kids don’t have pictures and artwork hung up at home, so hanging them around the room makes them feel super special.

When to Use the Cupid Name Craft

The best time to use this cupid name heart craft is during the month of February. As kids learn about the holiday of love, let them make their own name craft to share with friends and family.

It’s the perfect addition to a Valentine’s Day party or lesson plans to prepare for February 14th. The crafts are also great to give as sweet Valentines with a piece of candy attached. Instead of spelling out students’ names, let the kids write “Be Mine” or “Valentine” on the heart.

The craft also comes a two page coloring option if you want the kids to color their own templates. This makes a wonderful morning warmup activity to get the day started during February. It supports their fine motor work, and kids love coloring.

What’s Included with This Name Craft

When you download this Cupid Name Heart Craft, you will receive step-by-step instructions to complete the craft. You will also get a picture of the completed craft so you know how it should look when finished. The templates are easily printed on construction paper or cardstock. Some customers like to print on colored paper, and others like to print on plain cardstock to xerox, trace, and cut out.

Supplies Needed to Make the Craft

To complete the simple craft, you will need construction paper or cardstock in varying Valentine colors. I prefer to use red, pink, white, and purple, but any colors are welcome!

An editable version is included so you can write the letters of student’s names on the squares for them if you’d like. You can also have them write them themselves with a Sharpie or dark marker. The kids can also do this if they are working on their penmanship.

Then, you will need scissors, glue, and a printer to prep the templates.
