What is a Hat Craft?
A hat craft is a simple activity that students can complete and wear. They can proudly display their hard work. My hat crafts are perfect for fine motor development and fun themes throughout the year.
They are often used for parties or fun times of the year! I have a Hat Crafts Bundle that you can check out with 21 crafts to get you through the year!
Ways to Use a Hat Craft
Not sure how to use a Reindeer Hat Craft in the classroom? There are many unique ways to use a simple hat craft with kids. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
- Morning Work – Print the hat craft template and place the pieces out during a morning in December. Let the kids work independently to create their reindeer hat craft and wear it throughout the day. This is a great way to start the day quietly in the classroom.
- Fast Finisher Tasks – As students finish math, writing, or literacy tasks, let them complete a hat craft to stay occupied. They are simple enough to do independently, and it’s an incentive to work efficiently.
- Class Craft – To build classroom community, complete a hat craft each month as a class. The kids will enjoy following the step-by-step instructions to make their hats. They will also have something to look forward to throughout the year.
- Celebration Activity – If you have a class holiday party, use the reindeer hat craft as a station. Invite parents to volunteer and help make hats with students at one of the rotations or centers.
- Fine Motor Practice – Many young students need fine motor skills practice and can benefit from completing simple crafts. Add hat crafts and other activities to fine motor centers to build small hand muscles.
- Reward for Great Behavior – If your class loves crafts, use them as motivation for hard work and extraordinary behavior. After a fantastic week, let kids complete a hat craft to celebrate being amazing!
This reindeer craft is also perfect for studying the letter R! Alphabet crafts are a fun way to reinforce beginning letter sounds and for tons of fun.

How to Make the Reindeer Hat Craft
All you have to do to prep this craft is print the template onto colored cardstock. If you want the kids to color their craft, print it onto white cardstock for durability. First, cut out your pieces! Next, glue or staple the brown rectangles to form the band around the head. Then, glue on the antlers, holly berry, red nose, and eyes. Last, glue or staple the band to fit each child’s head.
