I am so excited to share this adorable St. Patrick’s day writing craft with you! I really enjoy completing a craft that also has a writing prompt, to keep things educational. 😉 This craftivity comes with multiple fun writing prompts for your little learners. I’m going to share how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a fun writing craft below!
Ways to Use the Pot of Gold Activity
There are so many ways to use this Pot of Gold writing prompt. In preschool it’s a great way to practice the letter P! After completing the craft it can be hung in the hallway as a decoration. Teachers and students will love checking out the cute craft lining their hallways.
Crafts are great for fine motor skills because they usually involve cutting, tearing and gluing small pieces together. This activity is great for cutting around rounded edges. It’s also helpful with handwriting because students have to add their own writing to the prompt.
This St. Patrick’s Day Writing Craft can be completed as a whole group while you dictate instructions or you can have students complete it during small group rotations so you can help students with individualized needs. Some teachers like to use crafts like this as a classroom reward for awesome behavior during the month. Kids will love putting their own spin on this cute leprechaun and pot of gold!
I like to pair my crafts with a fun themed story or lesson so there is meaning behind the activity. You can read your favorite St. Patrick’s Day story aloud and wrap it up with this writing piece.
Which Writing Prompts Are Included?
There are some really fun writing prompts included with this St. Patrick’s Day Writing Craft! All prompts come in both primary and single lined.
- With a pot of gold, I would…
- For this writing prompt, students write all about what they would do with a pot of gold. They come up with the coolest ideas. Some want to buy themselves new toys or new shoes and others want to buy houses for the homeless. It’s so interesting to see how students would react to a large sum of money.
- How to Catch a Leprechaun
- Find out how your kids would catch a sneaky leprechaun with this writing prompt. Kids get very creative in how they would trap a tricky leprechaun. I love reading about their fun ideas!
- Happy St. Patrick’s Day
- This writing prompt is super simple for students that need more help with writing. It’s the perfect hallway display for preschoolers in March.
- I am lucky because…
- This version of the writing prompt is very sweet because students write about reasons they are lucky. The kids always write that they are lucky because of their families and their amazing teachers. They also come up with silly reasons they are lucky and I love reading those sentences!
- I feel lucky when…
- I really enjoy listening to my students share why they feel lucky. This is similar to the prompt above but they can write about more specific experiences.
